American College Life

What is it like to attend college in the USA with an athletic scholarship? It can be the best experience of your life. You get to meet a diverse range of people from different regions and cultures while playing a sport that you love.

There are also a lot of misconceptions when it comes to scholarships. People tend to think that student-athletes have it easy. However, there is more to college life than tuition, room, and board.

College Life Involves a Wide Range of Activities

Part of the fun of going to college is getting to experience new things. Most colleges and universities offer long lists of activities outside of schoolwork and sports, such as:

  • Student government

  • Academic clubs

  • Debate teams

  • Internships

  • Culture clubs

  • Student newspapers

  • Volunteer work

  • Fraternities & Sororities

Depending on the size of the college, you will likely find groups or clubs devoted to your favourite pastimes.

The activities that you join can expose you to new types of people and cultures. However, you may also find things to remind you of home. International students make up a large percentage of the student population at many colleges and universities.

Overall, about 5.5% of all students at colleges in the USA are international students. Out of about 20 million college students, over a million come from other countries.

Experience the Weather in a New Region

College life in the US may give you the chance to live in a region that is completely different compared to your home. The US is geographically diverse, with climates to suit any tastes.

If you prefer warm, humid climates, you could attend college in Florida, Georgia, and the surrounding states. For those that want the heat without the humidity, there are fine colleges and universities throughout the Southwest, including parts of Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. The northern states offer exposure to four seasons, with warm summers, cold winter, and mild seasons in between.

Make New Friends for Life!

One of the best things about college life in the USA is that you will meet so many people from all over the world. The diversity in US colleges is one of the biggest draws for a lot of people. No matter who you are or where you come from if you satisfy the entry requirements, you too can have the opportunity of studying in America.

You’ll make new friends who share similar interests who will stick with you for life. Not only will you leave with a great degree, but you’ll also broaden your horizons in all aspects of life. You’ll get the opportunity to join social clubs and societies, discover new interests and develop yourself into anything you want to be.

After spending four years of your life at a college in the USA, you’ll always have friends to visit in some of the most exotic and exciting places in the world. College life doesn’t finish when you graduate; it will stick with you for the rest of your life.

Gain Access to State-of-the-Art Facilities

Perhaps the best part of college life is the facilities. For example, if you attend college on a golf scholarship, you will likely have access to a school-owned golf course and range with the latest golf equipment. Student-athletes also typically have access to gyms and workout rooms with high-quality gear. There are also many amazing facilities unrelated to sports, such as libraries and laboratories.

The bottom line is that college life in the USA provides a chance to explore new things. You can meet new people, join various activities, and access the best facilities.

Scholarships Do Not Cover Expenses

A scholarship covers some or all your tuition, which may include room and board. Keep in mind that most student-athletes do not receive scholarships and the ones that do typically receive a partial scholarship.

After covering your tuition there are still other expenses to deal with. You may need money for transportation, food, and entertainment. These costs can add up. However, most students will tell you that the college experience and education are worth every dollar.
